David Finley

June 27, 1932 — March 20, 2025

David R. Finley Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2025. He was born in Greenville, ME., on February 27, 1932, the son of Charles H. and Velma (Ryder) Finley. He could be found hunting, fishing or camping with his childhood friends, 'the Brady Gang'. They remained lifelong friends.

David graduated from Greenville High School class of 1952. He proudly served in the United States Air Force before returning to Greenville and working for Great Northern Paper and later B&A Railroad until retirement in 1994.

He met his future wife, Vivian R. McNinch, in 1962. They settled in Hermon, ME., where they raised their two sons. David and Vivian enjoyed 61 years together and had many hobbies; shooting at Hampden Rifle Club, golfing with friends, Ted and May Purvis and Mike Preble, and travelling with Judy and Tony. David also enjoyed woodworking, beekeeping, and time spent in his apple orchard.

David was a 50-year member and past Master of the Columbia-Doric Lodge #149 AF & AM, Greenville, ME.

David's pride and joys were his two sons, David Jr. and Luke, and his grandchildren, Nicole and Brian.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian; sons, David Jr. of Hermon, and Luke and his wife, Diane, of Levant; granddaughter, Nicole of Levant; grandson, Brian of Windham; sister-in-law, Joyce Macomber; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Alice (Robert)Tweedie, Charlotte (Gerald) Steeves, and Sarita Finley; sister-in-law, Marion (Linwood) Conley; brother-in-law, Floyd McNinch; special stepfather, Elmer "Felix" Fernald.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Waugh Cemetery, Levant.
