David Greenier

October 14, 1944 — March 5, 2025

David J. Greenier, 80, of Hampden, Maine died at home in Hampden, Maine, on March 5, 2025. He was born October 14, 1944 in Caribou, Maine, the son of Walter L. and Hazel (Tregarten) Greenier.

David was a "County boy" through and through. He grew up and worked on farms throughout his younger years. The strong work ethic that he acquired as a young man stayed with him his entire life. He graduated from Caribou High School in 1962 and Plymouth State College in 1966. Immediately after earning his undergraduate degree, he completed a Master's in Education and later a CAS from UMaine Orono.

In 1968 he began his career in education at Hampden Academy. How he loved that school, the community, the faculty, and most especially the kids. HA and RSU 22 became his home for 55 years. He retired as Assistant Principal in 2012 and then worked as Facilities Director until 2022. He took such pride in the schools and the grounds. He would still be there if his health had allowed!!

Some words used to describe David are "a legend, best role model, made work fun, touched so many lives, one of a kind, naughty and nice rolled into one, a true gentleman, always fair, the best of the best, best boss ever, a gift, unique and wonderful, larger than life, a man of great character" and on and on. When a student entered Mr. Greenier's office, they were shaking in their shoes. When they left, they knew they had been treated fairly and with respect and gained a life's lesson. David left a legacy of fairness, compassion, and kindness. So many stories surround his memory - many that could not be shared in mixed company!! He was truly loved.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Chris (Simard) Greenier, are his stepsons, Gregory Beswick and Jeff Beswick and his wife, Dawn; his beloved grandsons, Gabriel Beswick and Cameron Beswick and his wife, Summer, and their children, Juno and Dorian, all of Hampden. He also leaves his nephews, Aaron and Adam Greenier, whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Louis Greenier.

Gifts in David's memory may be made to the David J. Greenier Distinguished Service Award: RSU 22, 24 Main Road North, Hampden, ME 04444. This award meant a lot to David.

A Celebration of David's life and legacy will be held from 4-8pm Friday, April 11, 2025 at Jeff's Catering, 15 Eventcenter Way, Brewer. Following a time of laughter and remembrance from 5:00 to 6:00, will be David's favorite meal - a "Baked Bean Suppah."
