Born July 13, 1945 – Died July 30, 2024
David lived his entire life in Bangor and Brewer, ME. Though he struggled with intellectual disabilities, physical issues, and speech his entire life, he loved the greater Bangor community and the many friends he made over the years. He frequently would say “I have never met a stranger.” People remember him as being a friendly, kind man who loved to tease people; he was both a jokester and a prankster. He loved cats and treated them well. He also loved storytelling — he had a vivid imagination; working with tools; collecting books and video tapes, and going to yard sales.
David is survived by his brother Gary (Virginia) of Wayland, MA; sister Toby Hartman (pre-deceased by Paul) of San Diego, CA; sister Sharon Feinberg (Paul) of Arlington, MA; nieces Lauren Lichtel (Marty) and Rachel Bigler (Chris) both of Burlington, MA, and their several children; nephews Brian Slep (Deanna) of Waxhaw, NC; Kevin Slep (Alison Adcock) of Durham, NC; Richard Hartman (Antoinette) of San Diego; grandnieces Zadie and Oona Slep; grandnephews Aaron, Colin and Solomon Slep, and Marshall Hartman. David’s parents, Morris and Dena Slep, predeceased him. We are grateful to his many caregivers who made David’s life fuller, much more fruitful, and less stressful over the past several decades, especially his long-time caregivers at Katahdin Friends (KFI) in Bangor.
Burial will be at Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor.
