David Wilcox, 73, passed away September 15, 2024. After a long hard battle with dementia David passed away at home with family, he now joins his loved ones in a better place with no more pain no more sickness. He was born in Bangor, June 11, 1951 the son of Harold and Pat Wilcox.
David’s lifelong passion for racing began on his 18th birthday in 1969. He continued racing several tracks and won championships in 1985, 86, and 88. David retired from racing in 1996 after 27 years of success. Known to be quite the Wheelman, David was inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2017 along with his father Harold who was inducted in 2005.
David spent 30 plus years working as a driver at H.O. Bouchard, where he was loved and respected by all who knew and worked with him.
David and Penny loved spending their spare time camping around the state whenever they had the chance while enjoying their retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Penny Wilcox of Glenburn; stepchildren, Debbie Swoboda and husband Dale of Hermon, Ray Veazie and wife Frankie of Blue Hill, Alan Veazie and Kenny Veazie of CT.; sister Joyce Bowness of Levant; niece, Robin White and husband Wendell of Hudson; nephew, Ronald Wilcox of Glenburn.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice Care of Bangor who took wonderful, loving, respectful care of him at his home during his long battle with dementia. The family is forever grateful for the care received from All employees who helped him through his difficult journey and with special thanks to Mary and Steve.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the City Section of Mt Hope Cemetery, Severance Rd., off Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor.
