Dean Pennypacker

July 7, 1924 — February 15, 2017

BREWER - Dean Osborne Pennypacker passed away on February 15, 2017, at Bangor. Dean was born in Brewer on July 7, 1924, the son of John and Frances (Lambert) Pennypacker. He attended Bangor schools and graduated in 1942 from Bangor High School, where he excelled in track and cross country. Dean was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps in England and later in Germany. He enjoyed a long career with Bangor Hydro-Electric Company at Graham Station in Veazie, retiring as a member of the Quarter Century Club in 1988.

Dean followed his father into the Masonic fraternity and was an active member of St. Andrew’s Lodge, the Scottish Rite Valleys of Bangor and Portland, Anah Shriners, the York Rite bodies in Bangor, and Millwee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star which he served as Worthy Patron. He was a devout Christian, worshipping for many years at Columbia Street Baptist Church in Bangor and United Baptist Church of Ellsworth. Dean was a big-hearted, gregarious man who brought his plain speaking and humor to all of his many friendships.
Dean was deeply devoted to his family. He was married for 66 years to his loving wife, Frances (Pressey), who predeceased him in 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Joanna Pennypacker, daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and John Bunker, granddaughters Elizabeth and Julie Bunker, special niece Ann Fessenden and her husband Dave, and other members of his extended family.

For the last several years of his life, Dean was a resident of the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor, where he received the most exceptional and loving care. Heartfelt thanks go to the nurses, CNA’s, and staff who truly became part of Dean’s family.

Those who wish to remember Dean in a special way may contribute to the Maine Veterans Home, D Unit, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401, to assist with the special activities enjoyed by the residents. At Dean’s request, services and interment will be private. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
