Holden - Deborah Dolley, passed away October 19, 2024. She was born in Bangor, January 31, 1951 the daughter of Arno “LD” T. and Charlotte E. (Jones) Webster.
Debbie was a graduate of Bangor High School, and the University of Maine with a Masters Degree in French and Spanish and a Certificate of Advance study in Spanish.
She married Stephen Edward Dolley and they were married for more than 50 years, and a couple for over 57 years.
Debbie was hired by the Brewer School System where she taught high school and advanced placement students for 29 years. While teaching at Brewer High School she received, Teacher of the Year, 13th Annual Distinguished Award, presented by the Brewer City Council and the Foreign Language Teacher of the Year Award, presentation which took place in New York City.
While still in grade school, Debbie started the Debbie Webster School of Baton. She was Miss Bangor State Fair and Miss WGUY. Later she became proprietor, (while teaching) of Seabear Kennels and Debbie’s Designs.
Deborah’s paternal grandparents were George “William” H. Webster and wife, Julia (Turner) Webster. Maternal grandparents were Cecil D. and Effie ( Ricker) Jones Masters.
Debbie’s father was co-owner of Wights Sporting Goods. He passed away when she was 13 years old.
Debbie played the accordion and performed backstage for Myron Floren, (the accordion player with the Lawrence Welk show. Lawrence Welk was in attendance, and they performed at the old Bangor Auditorium.
Debbie as a very young person, and without her parents’ permission or knowledge, entered a Roy Rogers contest and ended up as a winner, with a pistol, holster and cowgirl boots. We can only visualize her parents’ surprise!
Her grandfather was Cecil D. Masters, (who was an FBI agent in Washington, DC as a special agent.) He also danced with Elinor Roosevelt, the then President of the United States. Cecil also supported and attended when Debbie performed as a clarinetist in the Brewer Band, Stephen Edward Dolley conductor.
Debbie skipped her senior year at Bangor High School and was granted early acceptance at the University of Maine, Orono. She worked as a student while doing a double major in Spanish and French.
Surviving are her husband, Stephen Edward Dolley; brother-in-law, Michael Drummond Dolley and his wife, Martha Ellen (Page) Dolley; sister-in-law, Marcia Louise (Dolley) Connolly and husband, Joseph Thomas Connolly; brother-in-law, Eric Gregory Dolley and wife, Linda Barbara (Staples) Dolley; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
