Deborah Glazier

June 19, 1954 — October 23, 2021

Deborah (Bishop) Glazier, 67, of Bangor, passed from this world on Saturday, October 23, 2021. A lifelong educator with a love of the written word, a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she was an indomitable spirit who will be deeply missed.

Deborah was born June 19, 1954 in Portland, the eldest daughter of Genevieve (Parker) and Robert G. Bishop, Sr. She grew up in Orrington and Brewer with her siblings and as a child was very close with her maternal grandmother, Anna Parker. She graduated from the University of Maine with her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and C.A.S. in Education. She taught in the Anderson, East Belfast, and Swanville schools before moving to Bangor in 1982, and continued to teach at Fairmount and Downeast Schools until her retirement in 2013. Throughout her life she sought to solve problems for people and was generous with her time, resources, and knowledge.

Deborah met the love of her life, Alan Glazier, in 1971, when he was a regular at the IGA Coffee Shop in Brewer where she was a waitress. They married in 1978 and had two beautiful children, Sarah and Jonathan. Alan called Deborah “beshert,” meaning “beloved” or “destined soulmate.” They enjoyed family life together, taking trips and proudly watching the children participate in sports, until Alan's unexpected passing in 2007. Deborah has been blessed as her children finished school and began careers, when Sarah married Gary Collins, and by the birth of her granddaughter Grayce Kathryn. Her family brought light and joy to Deborah’s life every day. Deb’s ancestors meant a great deal to her, too, and she spent many years researching the family history, even traveling to Canada to do genealogical research.

Deborah is survived by her children and grandchild: Sarah, Gary, and Grayce Collins of Kenduskeag, and Jonathan Glazier of Bangor; her brother Robert Bishop, Jr. and his wife Jane, of Orrington; sister Laura Duplisea and her husband Gary of Holden and their children, Genna and Matthew; nephew Bryant Noyes, his wife Heidi, and their children True, Rainyer, November, and Happy; nephew Seth Noyes; brother John Bishop; and dear friends, including her granddog Buddha. She was predeceased by her husband Alan, her sister Kathryn Bishop Noyes, and her parents.

Deborah will be laid to rest in Beth Israel Cemetery in Bangor, next to her beloved Alan. She always told us that his soul was waiting for her “on the other side,” and we know it will be a joyous reunion.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center Street, Bangor. Masks will be required regardless of vaccination status. Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the PJ Library, 25 Horseshoe Lane, Hampden ME 04444 in Deb’s memory. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
