Deborah A. (Lawson) Laferte, 72, died unexpectedly at home on December 5, 2021. She was born July 25, 1949 in Pawtucket, RI, the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Renard) Lawson.

Deborah was a graduate of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Elmhurst, and Vermont College. It was while she was at Vermont College where she met her husband of 52 years, Richard A. Laferte. After living in many states while her husband served in the U.S Army, they settled in Bangor in 1983. Debbie worked for the Bangor School Department then was the school secretary at Dedham School for over 20 years. In her retirement, she was a volunteer Caring Cuddler in the Northern Light EMMC Neonatal ICU.

Debbie is survived by her husband, her daughter Jennifer Laferte Carlson and her husband Eric of Dedham, her beloved grandchildren, Lily Carlson of Dedham and 2Lt. Sam Carlson of Fort Campbell, KY, her brother Edward Lawson and sister-in-law Doris of Foster, RI, sister Nancy Maddocks of Melbourne, FL, and daughter-in-law Holly Atkinson Laferte of Westbrook. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Richard A. Laferte, II.

A commemoration of Debbie’s life will be held January 15, 2022 at the Lucerne Inn in the Overlook building between 1pm and 4pm. Those who wish to celebrate Debbie’s life may make a gift in her honor to the Northern Light Health Foundation ℅ Neonatal ICU, PO Box 931, Bangor, ME 04401-0931.
