Deborah M. Leclair, 71, died in her sleep at a Bangor nursing home on October 30, 2024. Deborah "Debbie" was born in Orono, Maine on July 22, 1953, the youngest of 11, to Franklin and Miriam Leclair.
Debbie grew up in Orono and graduated from Orono High School in 1971. After having her son in 1973, she worked hard in school, as a single mother, to graduate from Beal College with an associate's degree in bookkeeping. She used her degree to work in the Westbrook area, before moving to Pittsfield and working in the guidance office at MCI, which she enjoyed greatly. In 1988, Debbie bought her first home in Hampden and moved her skills to the Bangor area, where she worked as a bookkeeper for several different companies, including a long stint at Darling’s.
A brain tumor and subsequent surgeries forced Debbie into an early retirement in the early 2000’s. She filled her time with helping with and loving her grandchildren, visiting friends and family, including several long trips to Florida, always making time for holidays and birthdays, volunteering for charities, visiting the beautiful beaches around Maine, playing cribbage, and watching the Red Sox.
Debbie is survived by sister, Dianne Sands of Florida; children, John Legere of Lagrange, Julie Smith and her husband, Nick Smith, of Northport; stepdaughter, Jennifer Williams and her husband, Brave Williams, of Bangor; grandchildren, Nate Sjogren, Hannah Legere, and Marcus Legere; step-grandchildren, Sabrina, Dakota, and Nicholas Smith; and many nieces and nephews; as well as other extended family. In addition to her parents, Debbie is pre-deceased by brothers Dale, David, and Donald; and sisters Dottie, Donna, Delores, Daryl, Darlene, and Dorinda.
A memorial reception will be held from 3-5pm, Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor, ME.
