Debra (Merritt) Maidlow
Bangor
Debra Lillian (Merritt) Maidlow, 67, of Bangor, passed away at home with her husband, Rick and her family by her side, on December 26, 2019, after a brief illness.
Debbie was born on June 16, 1952 in Caribou, Maine, the second child of John and Vivian Merritt. A true County girl, she survived the family’s move to Bangor in 1965. Debbie graduated from Bangor High School in 1970 and the University of Maine in 1974. She started working with her father, John Merritt, in the construction business as a part time summer job. Later when John formed Sullivan and Merritt, Inc., an industrial general contracting business in 1977, Debbie worked as the Office Manager until her retirement in 2014.
Debbie and Rick were married on July 6, 1985. Their lives together involved many outdoor activities and attending various sporting events in the area. They could often be seen walking together throughout the Bangor area en route to their favorite destinations: Dunkin Donuts, Tim Hortons, or Frank’s Bakery. Debbie and Rick also enjoyed traveling extensively in their retirement. Two of their most memorable trips were to New Zealand and Ireland.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 34 years, Rick; her siblings and their spouses, John and Karen Merritt, Judy and Steve Oleksyk, Pamela and Gary Norton, Holly and Chris Taylor and Amy and Michael Ouellette; her in-laws, Marlene and Tim O’Reilly, Mark and Rachel Maidlow, and Kathy and Tim McLeod; aunts, Norma Sund and Gladys Merritt; uncle, John Sandstrom; numerous nieces and nephews, long time best friend, Cathy Cox and their much loved cat, Gibbs.
We will miss her undeniable competitive nature, her exceptional cooking skills and spending holidays and special family gatherings at her home.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at a celebration of her life, 1-3 pm. Sunday January 26, 2020 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
Those wishing to remember Debbie in a special way, may contribute in her memory to a charity of your choice.
