OLD TOWN and ORONO – Delcina “Del” (Leveille) Chappelle, 80, passed away on July 30, 2014 at a Bangor hospital after complications of pre-existing lung disease. She was born on May 17, 1934 in Old Town, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Isabel (Pelletier) Leveille Sr.
She lived in her home in Old Town for 78 years prior to moving to a retirement community at Dirigo Pines in Orono. Del graduated from John Bapst High School in 1951 and, upon graduation from Husson College, was employed 10 years as Office Manager at Remington Rand in Bangor, later known as Armes Inc. In 1962 she married Byron “Bud” Chappelle who predeceased her in 2005 after over 42 years of marriage. Once her children were of school age, she enjoyed over 19 years of employment with the Old Town School Department, 16 years as the secretary in the Special Education Office, retiring from that position in 1996. Del was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed past membership in the Red Hat Society.
She was blessed with three dearly loved and caring children: Gregory of Old Town, Daniel and his spouse, Ellen of Seattle, WA and Geralyn “Lynn” Dyer and her spouse, Jeffrey of Old Town. Also one special grandson, Nathan Dyer of Old Town and a very caring and loving brother, Rev. Rudolph Leveille of Bangor. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Thomas “Skip” Chappelle and spouse, Carolyn of Veazie, sisters-in-law, Judith Ouellette and spouse, Paul of Milford, Deborah Seymour and spouse, Eugene of Milford, and Joan Chappelle of Old Town; several nieces and nephews and many caring neighbors and friends in Old Town.
At Del’s request there will be no visiting hours. A mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated at 11am Saturday August 2, 2014 at the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, 429 Main Street, Old Town with her brother, Rev. Rudolph Leveille, principal celebrant. It would be pleasing to Del for people to wear purple on the day of her funeral.
