BANGOR & MARION, OH – Demar “Dan” Nelson Poland, 87, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2019 at his home at Winterberry Heights in Bangor. He was born on October 3, 1932 in Marion, Ohio, the son of Fred and Irene Poland.
Early in life, Dan attended schools in Ohio. He later went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 24 years. On March 31, 1956 he married Myrtle Martin. After being assigned to Dow Air Force Base, Dan and Myrtle moved to Maine in 1969. Dan was a devoted husband and father. He will be missed for the kindness and love he had for his family.
In addition to his loving wife, Dan was predeceased by his brothers, John and Lawrence; and daughter, Debra Kaskiw. He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Marchelletta of Etna; sons, James Poland and wife, Donna, and David Poland and wife, Serena, all of Levant; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Dan’s wishes, services will be private for the family. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio St., Bangor. Those who wish to remember Dan in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
