Diane Inez (Gould) Benson, 78, died unexpectedly June 26 at a Bangor hospital. She was born, along with her twin sister, on March 4,1 946 in Lewiston, Maine to George H. and Josephine E. (Alexander) Gould.
Diane set the example of God’s love to all around her. She was born an identical twin alongside her sister and best friend Donna. Together they fooled many people over the years. She graduated from Hermon High School in 1964. After high school, she met her one true love, William “Bill” Benson. They were married and together for 57 beautiful years. Diane worked in different administrative/bookkeeping positions, but her primary role was as a loving, devoted wife to Bill and mother to their son, Jason. Diane gave her heart to her church, community and several organizations throughout the years. She loved to go camping and be active outside. She loved to do crafts and she loved to cook, although Bill took the chef’s hat when he retired. Most important of all, she loved the Lord and served Him with gladness. She loved to sing and was always filled with Joy.
Diane is survived by her son, Jason and his wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Kyli Sampson, Logan Rennebu, Mason Rennebu, and Stephen Kelly (the one she stole from Donna); her twin sister, Donna Smith of Newport News, Virginia; brothers, George Gould Jr. of Auburn, Audie Gould and his wife, Roxanne, of Hudson; nieces, Melissa Butterfield, Lori Cropley, Heidi Brewer, Joanna Gould, Sarah Gould, Amy Gould, Tracey Benson, Kendra Pleasant, Christina Witham, Jessica Gould; nephews, Scot Gould, Aaron Gould, John Benson Jr., Michael Benson; and several great nieces and nephews. Diane will be missed the most by her precious dog Charlie. She was predeceased by the love of her life, William “Bill” Benson; mother, Josephine Gould; father, George Gould Sr.; brother, David Gould; her mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Helen Benson; brother-in laws, Peter Benson and John Benson.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3pm Saturday, July 13th at Messiah Baptist Church 985 Union Street Bangor, Maine.
