BREWER – Donald Shackley Higgins Jr., 87, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Marion, March 18, 2014. He was born on October 28, 1926, in Bangor, the son of Donald and Marian (Harvey) Higgins Sr. Donald was a man of noble character who generously gave of his wisdom, his means, and his heart. He was honorable and encouraged honor and goodness in those who knew him. He enjoyed times spent with his wife reading, golfing, hiking Acadia, and traveling. Together, they were known for their love, their love for others, and their love for Jesus. Donald graduated from Bangor High School, was decorated an Eagle Scout, attended the University of Maine, and served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. He worked in his family’s business, D.S. Higgins and Sons, in Bangor. He retired alongside his wife as owner/operator of the National Park Motel in Bar Harbor. Donald was predeceased by his parents and his eternal love, his wife of 32 years, Marion L. Higgins, of Patten, Me. He is survived by his son, Thomas Higgins and wife, Vicki, of Bluffton, SC; his step-children, Clyde “Buzz” Cox and wife, Rose, of Grand Bahama Island, Cara McCarty and husband, David, of Hermon, Tamara Clark and husband, Alan, of Knox; his siblings, Leon Higgins of Bangor, Elizabeth “Betty” Speirs of Bangor, Julie Reeves of Bangor, and William “Bill” Higgins of Holden, MA; his 8 grandchildren, Robin, Daniel, Tabitha, Charity-Anne, Emma, David Jr., Samuel, and Mildred; his 13 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jonathan, Brianna, Justin, Isaac, Dominik, Camden, Charly, Xander, Cara Elizabeth, Gavin, Edward, and Olivia; his two great-great grandchildren Kailee and Parker; his nephew, Donald Speirs and wife, Debi, of Bangor, their children, Donald Jr., Justin, Seth, Debbie, and Jesse, and their grandchildren, Justin Jr., Sophie, Ryan, Donald III “Tre”, Audrey, and Austin. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the home going of Donald S. Higgins Jr.
