Donald Libby

March 7, 1931 — October 19, 2013

BANGOR - MSgt Donald Ellis Libby, USAF Retired went home to be with his Savior on October 19, 2013. He was born March 7, 1931 and raised in Princeton, son of Charles W. and Viola (Andrews) Libby. After graduation from high school he joined the USAF and served his country until June 1972 in places like Tuy Hoe Vietnam, Goose Bay Labrador Canada, Hahn Germany, Tripoli Libya and many more places. Upon retirement he joined his step-father Wade A. White as an electrician’s helper and soon earned his master electricians license and upon the retirement of Wade the business became Libby Electric. Don was an active member of Columbia Street Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, served as an usher, and was awarded Deacon Emeritus in March 2011 along with his longtime friend Bill Tuck.
Don outlived three wives, his first love Emma (Olson) in 1990, second Fran (Fern) in 1996 and third Barbara (Nado) in 2000. He is survived by a son, Donald and wife Kathy (Fowler) of Bangor, a son Rev. Ronald and wife Connie (Burbeck) of Brewer, and a daughter Brenda Chapman and husband Scott of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Monika Page and husband Steve of Brewer, Heather Libby and Adrian of London, England, Jason Libby and Shelly of Bellevue, NE, Jessica Bemis and husband Jonathan of Gray, Wyatt Libby and Amanda of Bellevue, NE, Ashley Chapman of Mesa, AZ and Aaron Chapman and Sarah of Mesa, AZ; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings a sister Joyce Carle of Princeton and Florida, a brother Charles Libby and wife Marie of Dallas, TX, and a brother Eldon Libby and wife Miriam of Baileyville; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life led by his son Rev. Ronald E. Libby, Pastor of Oceanville Baptist Church, Stonington will be held 4pm Monday, October 28, 2013 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to a time of fellowship and sharing at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service Monday. A private graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Don in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, 65 South Park Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
