Donald Mower

BANGOR – Donald Lester Mower, 79, passed away Friday December 6, 2013 at a Brewer health care center. He was born March 13, 1934, in Bangor, the son of the late George R. and Elizabeth (Vickery) Mower. Donnie grew up on the Pushaw Road in Bangor and lived there for most of his life. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1953 and had already enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1952 in which he served until 1960. Donnie was a fifth generation farmer on the Mower homestead and took great pride in his family and the farm. He will be forever remembered as a loving son brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Donnie was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was very active in the Queen City Grange in Bangor, was a past member of the East Bangor Congregational Church, and was a fifty- seven year member of the Kenduskeag Lodge #137 where he was Past Worshipful Master. He leaves behind his loving wife Annie (Staples) Mower of Brewer; two children: David Mower and his wife Christine of Goffstown, NH; Diana Holland and her husband Michael of Hampden; four grandchildren: Shiela Nevells, Brittany Holland, Colin Mower, Elizabeth Mower, and a great grandson Lukas Elliott. Donnie will also be remembered by six siblings: Frank Mower and his wife Avis of Bangor; Emily Doble of Kittery; Martin Mower and his wife Donna of Guilford; Priscilla Hodsdon and her husband Alvin of Carmel; Carolyn Doane and her husband Herbert of Brandywine, Maryland; Harold Mower and his wife Claudette of Dexter; as well as eighteen nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers: George H. Mower, Dexter Mower and Charles Mower. Relatives and friends may call from 12 noon until 1 PM Tuesday December 10, 2013 at the Bangor chapel of Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., where a Masonic service will be lead by Donald’s nephew Glenn Mower at 1 PM, followed by a Christian service of remembrance lead by nephew Fr. Scott Mower. The family invites to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St. Bangor, following the service.
