Donald Strout

July 12, 1937 — October 17, 2015

Donald Strout, 78, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 17, 2015 and went home to be with the Lord. He was born July 12, 1937 in Charleston, the son of Milford and Addie Strout.

On January 7, 1967, he married Lorayne Bean and they lived in Corinth for 48 years.

Donald grew up in Charleston and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1956. He attended night classes at Husson College where he majored in Business Administration. He worked for George B. Dow & Sons. He also worked for Emerson Shoe Company for a few years then went to work for Hurd Shoe Company out of Utica, NY for many years until going to work for the town of Corinth as a town manager from 1979 - 2010.

Donald served as a planning board member and the board of selectman before becoming town manager. He was a member of the Maine Legislature from 1973 - 1998, senior member of the Legislative Transportation Committee, a member of the Legislative Agriculture Committee, Special Highway Task Force, Special Commission on the Financing of General Assistance & Maine Municipal Legislative Policy Committee since 1986. He also served on Eastern Regional Council of State Governments & National Council of State Legislatures on Transportation.

Donald was a member of Bangor Baptist Church where he also served on the deacon board. He was a director of Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, a director on the Corinth Housing Corporation. He was a member of Corinth Fire and Ambulance Association, a member of powerline prowlers snowmobile club and past master Olive Branch Lodge #124 Masonic. He was involved with Corinth Area youth programs for many years as Little League coach and girls softball team.

Donald always took a lot of pride in his garden and mowing the lawns. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren. He always enjoyed doing things with his father-in-law.

Donald is survived by his wife, Lorayne Strout, of 48 years; his 6 children, Alisa Raymond and husband John of Standish, Donald Strout Jr. and wife Cristy of Corinth, Dawn Strout of Lisbon, Eric Strout and wife Amy of Glenburn; Brad Strout and girlfriend Layla of Bangor; and Crystal Stanley and husband Joel of Medway; 18 Grandchildren, Kyle and Megan Raymond, Dylan Raymond and fiancée Meg, Dyvan, Kayla, and Krysta Raymond, Hayden and Chase Strout, Lauren and Emily Strout Asher Strout, Hannah, Hailey, Johanna, Joel, Olivia, Adilynn, Elise, and Joseph Stanley; 2 great-grandchildren, Aria and Dustin Raymond; brother, Maurice Strout and wife Marilyn of Charleston; Sisters, Natalie Trafton of Corinth, Barbara Hopkins of Eastbrook, and Muriel Sawyer of Pembroke; In-laws: Lois Strout, Lucille Strout, Barbara Strout, Buster and Carmen Bean, Adrian and Mary Jean Chronkhite, Charlene and George Chesley, Derwood and Julia Bean, Greg Bean, Christine Bean, Alden and Cindy Bean; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Milford and Addie Strout; his brothers Paul, Norman, Malcolm, Keith, and Robert Strout. He was also predeceased by in-laws, Franklin and Clarissa Bean, step-mother Geraldine Bean; sisters-in-law, Carmen Bean, Ethel Strout, and Margaret Strout; brothers-in-law, Howard Trafton and Boyd Hopkins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1 - 3 pm and 5 - 8 pm Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral Services will be held 11am Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Bangor Baptist Church, 1476 Broadway, Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick, pastor, officiating. The family invites all to share conversation and refreshments immediately following the service Wednesday. Interment will immediately follow refreshments at the Corinthian Cemetery Exeter Rd., Corinth.
