BANGOR - Donna Olive Pulver, 85, died July 21, 2020 at a Bangor Nursing Home following a period of declining health. She was born November 14, 1934, the daughter of Arthur W. and Jennie O. (Leathers) Hillman.
Donna was a loving mother and grandmother, especially proud of her sons Frank and Bill. During her children’s school years and beyond, Donna organized her life and work around her sons’ activities, never missing a sporting event. Donna took great pride in her life-long hometown of Hermon where she was raised helping to run the family farm on the Billings Road. She graduated from Hermon High School in 1953, where she played on their women’s sports teams among other activities.
After retiring from Georgia-Pacific as a computer operator, Donna developed a passion for community service, serving for many years on the Hermon School Committee, Town Council and numerous other local boards and committees. She was especially proud of her involvement in creating the Hermon Teen Center and the construction of a new state-of-the-art high school, a far cry from the town’s one-room schoolhouse she attended at a young age.
An avid fan of all sports, she religiously watched her favorite Red Sox, Celtics and N.Y. Giants. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, sharing her creations with family and friends. She loved all animals and faithfully fed “her” song birds outside her kitchen windows. She took great pleasure in her flower and vegetable gardens but sharing the fruits with her friends and community gave her the most joy of all.
Surviving, are her sons, Frank J. Pulver, and fiancée, Pam Dunham of Bangor, William “Bill” A. Pulver and wife, Theresa of Vassalboro; grandsons, Ryan Pulver, of Portland, and Jeff Pulver and wife, Alyssa of Jefferson; sister, Juanita Fogg and husband, Don; brothers, Wilbur Hillman, George Hillman and wife, Carlita, and Charles Hillman and wife, Cori; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Hillman.
A graveside service will be held 10:30am Friday, July 31, 2020, at Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon. A reception will follow at the Hillman residence at 179 Billings Road, Hermon. Those who wish to remember Donna in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Hermon Recreation Department at Town of Hermon, Attn: Mary Cameron, Recreation Director, 333 Billings Road, Hermon, Maine 04401.
