Donna Ross

Donna K. Ross, 86, died September 30, 2021 in Bangor. She was born to Gordon and Mary Kingsbury of Pennsylvania.

Donna graduated from U Conn with a degree in Education and became a loyal follower of college basketball. After relocating to Orono, she raised her two daughters and coached JV women’s basketball. She had a distinguished long-standing career in the Extension Service at the University of Maine at Orono.
While working at the university, Donna earned a degree in Horticulture. She was also a Master Gardener and her love for gardening lasted throughout her life. She met and married a handsome fellow student Norman Ross, USN Ret. They made their home in the Bangor area, also built a cabin retreat in Jonesboro.

Donna was active in gardening, knitting, and church groups however was best remembered as having a wide circle of longtime friends of all ages. Her office door was always open to college students who frequented her desk for a quick hello or sound advice. The consummate host, her home’s door was always open to friends visiting from far and near. With her dazzling smile, she was always willing to help a friend or stranger.

She is survived by her loving husband Norman, daughters Linda Leonard of California, and Robyn Leonard of Colorado, step children Norman M Ross, wife Kelli, Daniel Ross, wife Rose, Allan Ross, Janet Ross McNulty, husband Mike, and four grandchildren, Steven, Evan, Ross, and David.

A memorial of Donna’s life will be held locally and announced at a later date. Final arrangements will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
