Doris E. Spencer

August 24, 1927 — May 8, 2021

Eddington- Doris Spencer passed away on May 8, 2021 at the Maine Veterans Home after many years of declining health. She was born on August 24, 1927 in Eddington the daughter of George H. and Evangeline Knox. She was a life time member of the North Brewer Eddington Methodist Church, serving the church in many ways until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She enjoyed traveling, spending summers at Green Lake. Her hands were always busy, either knitting, crocheting, making crafts for the Church Fair. Doris is survived by her daughter Deborah and favorite son-in-law Timothy Largay Sr of Dedham, her son James A. Spencer III of Eddington, grandsons A John Goodwin II and his wife Phoenicia Kraemer; and Timothy R. Largay Jr and his wife Tonya; her great grandchildren Grace and Matthew Goodwin; Jameson and Spencer Largay all of Brewer. She is also survived by her sisters Sara Smith and Charlene Rockwell of Eddington and Pauline and her husband Bill Williamson of Florida. A very special cousin Bernard Byther of Bangor, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews along with her best friend’s daughter Cheryl Bell Monroe of Veazie. Doris was predeceased by her parents, husband James Spencer Jr and brother George M. (Bub) Knox.
A very special Thank You to all the staff at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor who took such loving care of Doris, you all were her family’s heroes. Also, a thank you to the staff at Loving Touch, her sister Sara and members of the church who helped while her son was working. Her family would also like to recognize her son Jim. He was her loving primary care giver for many years. A service to celebrate her life will be held 11 am Friday, May 14, 2021 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are invited to call 10 am until time of the service. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Eddington. Gifts in her memory can be made to the North Brewer Eddington Methodist Church, 31 Main Rd. Eddington, ME. 04428.
