VEAZIE and BANGOR - Doris “Dottie” (O’Leary) Wentworth, 85, passed away October 26, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Portland, ME., on September 29, 1930, a daughter of Charles and Doris (Foley) O’Leary.
Dottie was a graduate of John Bapst High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She received her R.N. degree from the Mercy Hospital in Portland, ME. After graduating, she worked at the Mercy and then the Eastern Maine General Hospital. Dottie enjoyed celebrating all holidays and birthdays with family and friends. Other than Christmas, St. Patrick's Day was the most special. Everybody had to be Irish that day and she won many prizes for "best dressed", with jewelry and all. She and her husband, Jim, were residents of Veazie for over 50 years. They were "snow birds" for 20 years in Ft. Myers, FL. Dottie was a sun worshiper and it was obvious from many days spent at Sanibel Beach. They were proud to be original season ticket holders for the Red Sox at the City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers and enjoyed watching them for many seasons with friends. They traveled extensively. Her favorites being Ireland and the round trip on the Concorde from New York to London. For the past year and a half, they have resided at Winterberry Heights in Bangor.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 60 years, James Wentworth, of Bangor. She is also survived by her daughter, Ann Therrien and her husband James Therrien of Hampton, N.H. and daughter Susan Austin and her husband Stephen Austin, of Reading, MA; grandchildren, Nicholas and Natalie Austin; sister-in-law, Pamela Braley, of Myrtle Beach, SC; numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Carol Colson and her husband, Steve, of Veazie; special caregiver and dear friend, Carla Gibson; and a countless number of friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary “Betty”Beede, her brother, Charles “Charlie” O’Leary and a niece, Deborah Dalfonso.
A Funeral Mass will be held 2pm, Thursday October 29, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, followed by the Rite of committal at Fairview Cemetery, Main Street, Veazie. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the services.
