Dorothy H. Larcombe, 93, was promoted to Glory on May 23, 2022. It was a sunny spring day she would have loved, with the lilacs blooming. She was born in Derby, Maine on December 19, 1928, daughter of Joseph Sites and Edith (Robinson) Sites. Dot grew up in Bangor with her 4 brothers, Robert, Ralph, Donald, and Arthur, and younger sister, Jacquelyn.
When a young Salvation Army lieutenant, Thomas Larcombe, came to Bangor, she stole his euphonium and his heart. They were married on February 24, 1950, and had 6 children. Once her children were all in school, Dot went to work as a clerk at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, where she worked until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army and continued playing the euphonium in the Salvation Army Band well into her 80’s, something she was very proud of.
Dot was predeceased by her parents, husband Thomas Sr., brothers, sons Timothy and Daniel, and grandson Thomas III. She is survived by her children; Thomas Jr. of Orono, Terry of Veazie, Sharon Hutchinson (Carl) of Bangor, and Judith Hardin of Brewer; her sister Jacquelyn West of San Diego, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Eastside Rehab and Kindred Hospice for their care of Dot in her last days.
A graveside service will be held in late July at a day and time to be announced. Gifts in Dot’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 65 South Park Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
