Dorothy “Dottie” Arline Myers (Drew), 90, returned to her heavenly home on June 19, 2020. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God gave her great peace.
Dottie was born to the late Samuel W. Drew and Winnie Buchanan, in Brewer Maine, June 22, 1929. She was one of fourteen children. On June 26, 1952, she married Claude Myers. They started their family and had three sons and a daughter. She deeply loved her children and was so proud to be their mother. Claude and Dottie were married for 46 years. Dottie always had a love for people.
She graduated from Boston Children's Hospital as an LPN and came back to Maine to work at Eastern Maine Medical Center in the pediatric unit. She worked at the Osteopathic Hospital in Bangor on Med Surg and BMHI along with local nursing homes. In her fifties, she changed the focus of her career from the bedside to working at the Career Center assisting and preparing individuals 55 and older to return to the work force. She was generous with anything she had. She donated to many non-profit organizations whose mission was to help those less fortunate. In 1991 she received a Jefferson Award for her dedication. She retired at 82 years old. Dottie always worked tirelessly for her family.
Dottie was blessed with a large and loving family. She raised her four children with patience, discipline and encouraged them to always put Jesus first. She was always up for an adventure and loved going to all her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities. One of her favorite adventures was going to the Women of Faith conferences each year. She would attend with her daughter in law and granddaughters. There was nothing that she would not do, she was the best adventure and travel companion. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels, to sing the classic hymns and always made sure that her family would lean into Jesus during good and bad times. Dottie was very involved in her church, the Bangor Church of the Nazarene. She served as a church pianist, board member, teen camp counselor, children camp counselor, along with teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. In 2006, she received the distinguish service award from the Bangor Church of Nazarene for her service, loyal devotion to God and family, and reaching out to those in need and portraying the love of Christ in her life. She continued her mission to reach the lost when she moved to Augusta and worshiped at the Augusta First Church of the Nazarene. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator.
Dottie survived by her sister, Carlene Tripp; her son Richard Myers, and wife Sandra, son Frank Malone and wife Debra, son Robert Myers, daughter Linda Friske and husband Steve; her grandchildren Danielle Gustafson and husband Garrett, Nicki Leeman and husband Jerry, Tim Myers, Amanda Petersen and husband Patrick, Holly Kiidli and husband Taavet, Michael Malone and wife Monica, Eric Malone, Shannon Tundel and husband Paul, Jonathan Friske and wife Anna, Matthew Friske and wife Kate Gahlfuss, Jodi Smolk and husband Richard; her great grandchildren Ella, Hannah, Isaac, Bradan, Zander, Cadence, Jaidon, Nya, Abby, Katie, Michael Jr. Jonathan, Tasha, Eric II, Tyler, Tatum, Tierny, Taylee, Ashlynn, Connor, Kadence, Jonathan, Kaitlynn, and Savannah. She is preceded in death by her husband Claude Myers, first husband Al Malone, twelve siblings, her parents, and her aunt Florence Smith and uncle Harry Smith.
Visiting hours will be open to the public on Friday, June 26th from 10am to 12pm at the Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center Street, Bangor, Maine. Please remember due to COVID-19, please wear a mask. Pastor Mark Stanford will officiate the private ceremony that is being held for immediate family members due to COVID 19.
