BANGOR, ME – Dorothy B. “Dotty” Pinkham, 96, passed away peacefully February 15, 2024, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor, Maine. She was born in Virginia in 1927, the daughter of Lois and Thomas Booker, late of Big Island, Virginia.
Dotty graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, then taught school in Maryland. She married David Pinkham in 1952. They moved to Montpelier, Vermont in 1956, where they lived most of their married life, except from 1968 to 1973 in Shelburne, Vermont. They had been married 67 years at the time David passed away in 2020. Dotty moved to Maine the next year to be close to her daughter.
Dotty was a devoted mother and wife who created a lovely and loving home for her family. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, entertaining, and art history, particularly 19th century American art. At times she worked as a substitute teacher and seasonally at Vermont Life magazine. She volunteered as a docent in art galleries at the Shelburne Museum, with Red Cross blood drives, and with the Women’s Fellowship at Bethany Church in Montpelier.
Dotty is survived by her daughter, Diane Muir of Bradford, Maine; and son, Richard Pinkham and his wife Anne Chetham-Strode of Arvada, Colorado. In addition to her husband, Dotty was predeceased by her brothers Tom and Bill, and her son-in-law Ken Muir. The family will have a private service for Dotty at a future date.
Those who wish to remember Dotty in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the T.W. Wood Gallery, 46 Barre St., Montpelier VT 05602, 802-262-6035. Condolences may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
