HERMON - Douglas Keith Smith, 85, passed away November 2, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ellsworth, October 29, 1936, the son of Norman K. and Josephine (Sprague) Smith. Doug loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Doug served as superintendent of schools in several school systems in the area, retiring in the 1980s. He then served as general manager of Village Car Company and as one of the deans of EMCC, before retiring again at age 80 as superintendent of schools in Glenburn. He was a member, and past master of Lynde Lodge #174 A.F. & A.M. of Hermon, Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Shriners. He served for more than 40 years as a Special Deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office. Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years, Anne (Martin) Smith; children, Brian Smith and wife, Joyce, Alan Smith and wife, Ann Marie, David Smith and wife, Tracy, and Karen Hill; stepchildren, Brent Bridge and wife, Laurie, Carrie Bridge, and Jeffrey Bridge; grandchildren, Josh Rand and wife, Krista, Shauna Rodriguez and husband, Edwin, Kurt Smith and wife, Kristen, Stephanie Smith and husband, Mason, Hannah Smith, Cassie Smith, and Taylor Morrison; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, Ken Smith and wife, Rachel, Greg Smith and wife, Fraya, Craig Smith and companion, Marie Finn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ernie Smith; and a son-in-law, Bob Hill. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday November 13, 2021, at Hermon Baptist Church, Rt. 2, Hermon, followed by a reception for family and friends.
