Drew Scott Baker of Brewer, Maine, an accomplished young man, passed away tragically on October 28, 2023, at the age of 24, leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Drew was born on February 11, 1999.
Drew Baker was a remarkable individual who lived life with an incredible passion and a wide range of interests. He had an uncanny ability to find joy in every moment, and his passion for life was truly amazing. Drew's hobbies were as diverse as they come; he loved playing cornhole, cruising on his motorcycle, going hunting and fishing, teeing off on the golf course, hitting the ice in a hockey game, testing his luck at poker, exploring new places, and socializing with friends. Drew had a unique talent for making connections, both in his professional and personal life. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and turn them into friends.
Drew's journey began in Bangor, Maine, but his family soon moved to Brewer, where he truly started to shine. His passion for sports became evident at a young age as he played Travel Soccer, Travel Hockey, and Little League Baseball. As he moved on to Brewer High School, his athletic skills continued to shine. He was a three-sport athlete in his freshman and sophomore years, juggling baseball, hockey, and soccer. However, he decided to narrow his focus to soccer and hockey in his junior year, where his leadership qualities became apparent. By the time he reached his senior year, his classmates and coaches recognized his exceptional qualities, naming him team captain for both hockey and soccer.
But Drew's journey didn't stop on the field; he was a hard worker and a go-getter in all aspects of his life. He started his early working days at his uncle's service station, pumping gas, and later moved on to Brewer's Paradis grocery store. During his high school years, Drew developed an interest in welding, which would become the foundation of his career. He kicked off his welding career at Cianbro Construction, where he tackled welding tasks high up in the wind towers of Illinois. After several trips to Illinois, Drew decided to apply his welding skills closer to home and joined the Cianbro team at Bath Iron Works, a shipyard where he continued his welding journey. His path then led him to Westmore, where he took on the challenge of welding oil tanks. While working as a subcontractor for Johnson's Precision Welding, Drew ventured into the business side of welding and fabrication. Under the guidance of Matt Johnson, he learned the ropes of bidding on projects and securing contracts, setting the stage for his entrepreneurial ventures.
Drew was a young entrepreneur, serving as the President and CEO of numerous successful businesses, including DB’s Mobile Welding and Fabrication LLC, Baker Real Estate LLC, DB’s Financial Services, DB’s Property Management, DB’s Ace of Hearts, and Iconic Cornhole.
Drew was not just a hard worker; he was also a fierce competitor in all his pursuits, whether it was welding, cornhole, golf, marksmanship, hunting, or entrepreneurship. He had a huge desire to be the best and was willing to put in the extra effort to be the best. Drew's legacy lives on as a shining example of a life lived with passion, a solid commitment to excellence, and a charismatic personality that continues to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
