EDDINGTON - Edith Louise Hodgins, age 79, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, after an extended illness. She was born June 18, 1939, at the family home on North Main St., in Brewer, the daughter of Frederick A. and Hughene (Drisko) Hodgins.
Edith graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1957. She married in 1961, living in Hermon for more than 24 years, raising her two daughters. In 1992, she moved back to Eddington and into the heart of her former high school sweetheart, Philip Robertson, who was the love of her life. They spent 27 inseparable years together, enjoying countless family events, traveling thousands of miles in search of an elusive new Beanie Babies and admiring the deer on nightly drives.
Well-known for her kind spirit, generosity, and love of people and conversation, Edith enjoyed several careers that allowed her to display those qualities. Most enjoyable were Cablevision, King’s Department Store, Legere’s store for Cora and Cal Bamford, Thomas O’Connor Corporation and, in her retirement, Wendy’s in Brewer. There were many get-togethers on the Funny Farm, creating happy memories with her family and friends, during spaghetti feeds, family reunions, cookouts, and innumerable games of Aggravation.
Thank you to Ronnie and Gail Hatch for unwavering friendship; Fred and Barbara Richards for so many great games of Aggravation; Mike Langley and Belinda Langley for many good memories.
Edith’s immeasurable love for her parents, grandparents, and siblings instilled the same great love for family in her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved Philip, on April 5, 2018; brother Harold “Red” Hodgins in 2011; and granddaughter Casey Ann Shawley in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Jenkins-Bull, Heidi Shawley and Larry Cyr, of Eddington; grandchildren Amanda Rodenbeck and Shawn Burgess of Canon City, Colorado, Kyle Bull and wife Gretchen of Old Town and Noah Shawley of Eddington; great grandchildren Alivia and Adilynn Rodenbeck and Trenton Burgess, all of Canon City, Colorado. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Sandra Cookson of Eddington, Frederick A. “Todd” Hodgins Jr. of Aurora, Keith and his wife Sandra Hodgins of Brewer; and several nieces and nephews. Aunt Edie loved them all.
