Edward Joseph Mckenna

HAMPDEN & BANGOR - Edward Joseph McKenna died at home in Hampden, January 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on July 22, 1943 in Bangor and grew up in Newburgh. He was graduated from Carmel schools. Ed served proudly in the US Army enlisting in 1965. He was deployed to Germany for several years, was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, and was the recipient of our Nation’s Purple Heart. He retired from the Maine Army National Guard in 1995 with nearly 30 years of service. Ed was a long-time employee of the Dead River Co. and was known as the company “gas” man. His service lasted 44 years. He was also employed later in life by Dysarts for many years. He very much enjoyed spending time with family, visiting friends, cookouts, mowing grass & riding his John Deere tractor, taking his grandchildren and their friends to Dysarts for treats, tinkering in his shed, snowmobile club dinners, and going to camp at Oxbrook Lake with friends Ivan, Douglas, Bruce, Bill, Tom, Aaron, Josh, Kevin, Roger, Mike, & Rudi. Ed is survived by Glenda, his wife of 39 years, along with 5 children that include daughters Sonya & Daisy and sons Billy, Jimmy, & Shane. Surviving among his grandchildren are Brianna, Ryan, Austin, Paige, & Sophie. He was a great grandfather as well and is survived by Maddie, Olivia, & Cooper. Surviving siblings include sister Patty and brothers Frank, Tommy, Cliff, & Ken. Finally, Ed leaves behind best friends Donnie & Terry. Ed was predeceased by his Mother, Margaret Robinson. A memorial service with military honors will be held 4pm, Friday, January 11, 2019 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather with the family immediately following the service on Friday until 7pm.
