ORONO - Elaine Ruth Paradis Luthin passed away on the morning of April 30, 2015 at the age of 52 after a tempestuous battle with leukemia.
She was a beloved and passionate teacher, blessed with many caring friends and a compassionate and encouraging community who surrounded her with love, affection, and support.
Elaine was the daughter of Roger and Rosanne Paradis of Fort Kent, ME and the adoring sister of Sonya, Daniel, and Marc. She leaves behind her husband and partner of 32 years Chris, and her children Jessamy, Ethan, and Erin. Her family includes several aunts, uncles, in-laws nieces, and nephews.
We will all miss her effervescent and high-spirited personality, whose lust for life was at sometimes boundless and often rebellious. She was Thomas Hardy’s Eustacia, with the restlessness of James Joyce’s Molly Bloom. Always humorous and occasionally biting, she was unapologetic for her refusal to compromise her personal and professional principles.
She was larger than life.
“The dead live."
"How do they live?"
"By love.”
― John Fowles, The Magus
She remains larger than life.
