March 17, 1927 — February 18, 2016

BANGOR AND CONOVER, N.C. - Elaine Brown Potter, 88, passed from this life to her eternal reward with Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 18th, 2016, in Hickory. Born March 17th, 1927, in Belfast, Maine, Elaine was the daughter of Warren Everett and Eva Hall Brown. Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, George Harold Potter of Bangor, Maine, and Conover, North Carolina; as well as her older brother Maurice Brown of Swanville, Maine. Elaine was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by daughter Jean Ellen Tir and her husband Steven Tir of Kosice, Slovakia; daughter Barbara Elaine Potter of Conover, North Carolina; grandson Steven George Andrew Tir of Kosice, Slovakia; brother Ashley Brown of Swanville, Maine; and sister Jean Condon, of Bangor, Maine. Elaine loved and had a special place in her heart for her only grandchild Stevie Tir. Elaine is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends. Elaine graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast, Maine, in 1945. She received her nursing degree from Eastern Maine General Hospital (now EMMC) in Bangor, in 1948. Nursing was one of the joys of her life. Dubbed "Colonel Potter" by coworkers, Elaine took her job as charge nurse seriously and shared much tender, loving care with her patients. Elaine was known and loved for her great compassion and generosity. She knew the art of recognizing others' needs; and she often reached out to quietly meet those needs. Elaine sincerely enjoyed sending greeting cards, often with something tucked inside to help and encourage a loved one. Elaine wanted to be remembered as a "loving wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend." She looked forward to her future life with Christ in heaven, where she has now been reunited with family and friends who had gone on before. For decades, she was a faithful member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church (Pastor Charles Hurst) in Bangor, Maine. In her later years, Elaine was pleased to attend the Christ Alive Church (Pastor Mark Ivey) in Newton, North Carolina.
