Elaine Gloria Rideout, 83, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, in Bangor at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born in Old Town, on January 4, 1932, the daughter of Adelord Madore and Doris Kitchin. Elaine worked for Viner Bros. in the 60’s, most nursing homes in the Bangor area, including the Bangor Convalescent Center on Mt. Hope Ave., now the Eastside Rehab and Living Ctr. in the late 70’s.
Elaine is survived by three sons, Bruce Rideout and his wife, Dee, of Raleigh, NC; Chester Rideout of Federal Way, WA; True Rideout and his wife, Marion, of Veazie; four daughters, Starr Lee Stinson of Bangor; Crystal Rice of Veazie; Tammy Crossman, and her husband, Richard, of Cadillac, MI; Lisa Kelly and her husband, Timothy, of Bangor. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Chester L. Rideout, in 2002; by two daughters, her infant daughter, Melody Lynn, in 1960; her daughter Linda Severance, in 2013. Elaine was one of 11 siblings. She had 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Elaine was a woman of conviction, fervor, and compassion who deeply loved God, her husband, her children, and anyone who reached out to her. Her occupation aligned with her mission in life which was to minister to and help the elderly and children. She would hold weekly services at the local hospitals uplifting their hearts with songs, prayers, a kind touch, and the word of God. Many of her children learned this gift from her example. She gave when she herself had unmet needs. She was a talented musician, published composer, singer-songwriter, and much more. Many times her children would sit together to watch the black and white TV in anticipation to see her go on the stage and sing her own songs on the Country Jamboree. Fond memories of her comforting us during lightening storms sitting around the piano as we all cried to the heartbreak-song, “Little Buddy.” Her love for God and life gave her such a great determination and drive until that moment she decided to take the Master’s hand and enter into her rest. Mom, we will miss you in this life and until we meet you again soon in that sweet by and by.
