Elden “Ripper” L. Mayhew Sr.– 83, returned to his heavenly home on March 21, 2020 from a valiant battle with a long illness. Elden passed on to Heaven peacefully in his home listening to hymns and holding the hand of loved ones. He was born August 06, 1936 in Glenburn the son of Norris E and Gertrude (Miles) Mayhew. Elden worked for the city of Bangor as a heavy equipment operator for 33 years.
All who knew Elden loved him for his sacrificial, selfless lifestyle, his positive outlook and his quick downeast wit. Whenever asked “how are you doing”? Elden would respond “fit as a fiddle”. Elden enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, visiting with friends and lunch with his brother. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Edwin.
Elden is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian (Toothaker) Mayhew, they resided in Newburgh, his children Elden Mayhew Jr. of Bangor and Lucille Towle and her husband Eric of Wakefield, RI.; four grandchildren Cody Mayhew, Harmony Mayhew, Nathanael James and Joshua James; one brother John Mayhew and his wife Velma of Hampden and many nephews and nieces.
Pastor Steve Nute will officiate a celebration of Elden’s life in May. Friends and family are welcome to attend the grave side celebration at Neally’s Corner Cemetery, Hampden.
