HAMPDEN and BANGOR – Elizabeth “Betty” (Gould) Boardman passed away September 25, 2013 at an Orono healthcare center after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband of 46 years, Vincent E. Boardman.
Betty was born September 21, 1937 in Houlton, the daughter of Archie and Myrtle (Harris) Gould. She was a stay at home mom who took great pride in that role and caring for her family. She was a member of the Tuscan Chapter #148 Order of the Eastern Star where, for years, she held many offices including Worthy Matron. She also bowled for a morning women’s league at Family Fun Lanes for many years.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Sharon Buffinton and her husband David of Scarborough, Penny Gray of Hampden and Byron Boardman and his wife Maureen of Bradford, VT; grandchildren, Andrea Gray of Hampden, Colby Gray and his wife Brandy of Hampden, Meghan Boardman and Cameron Boardman of Bradford, VT; great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Shelby Gray of Hampden. She also leaves sisters Alta Campbell and Glenna Stiles of Milan, NH, brother-in-law Hartley Dwyer of Weston, 2 sisters-in-law, Carol Gould of Danforth and Diane Jarvis and her husband Gary of Hermon; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Vince, her parents, siblings, Byron Gould of Danforth, Wilfred Gould and his wife Lola of Windsor Locks, CT, Barbara Bickford and her husband Clyde, Tina Dwyer of Weston, and Waldina Gould of Zephyr Hills, FL. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Beacon Hospice and Orono Commons for their care, kindness and support this last week of Betty’s life, Westgate Manor for caring for their mother/grandmother over the past year and very special caregivers Arline Frey and Shirleen Hamor for helping Betty at home.
A funeral service will be held 12pm Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with Pastors Dean Stiles and William Simpson officiating. Friends may call 11am until time of service Wednesday. Graveside Services will be held 1pm Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
