Elizabeth Paradis

March 4, 1929 — May 12, 2014

OLD TOWN - Elizabeth Ann (Provost) Paradis, 85, went to be with her Lord Monday, May 12th, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Newport, VT, she lived in Old Town for most of her life. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed family camping and snowmobiling and toured the highways of Maine, New England and the Maritimes with her husband Leland on their motorcycle. Sewing and upholstering were her favorite hobbies and she loved bargain hunting with her sister Patty. Betty was especially devoted to caring for her cats and dogs, especially in her later years. More recently, she enjoyed family visits to New Hampshire, Vermont and to the camp in New Brunswick. She attended Old Town schools and was a graduate of Old Town High School and Beal Business School. She was first employed at her grandparent’s store, Boutin’s Market (now Tim’s Store) as a girl with her sister, working the lunch shift during her lunch hour from school. She later worked for Ben Sklar’s, Old Town Shoe Company and the University of Maine. More recently, Betty enjoyed being a member of Our Neighborhood Club and Old Town Senior Citizens. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Leland M. Paradis; her parents, Eva (Hilchey) Provost and Edward Provost, Sr. and her sister, Irene (Provost) McGee.
She is survived by her son Edward of Old Town and special friend Linda Dodge of Bangor; son Eric and wife Deborah of Bangor; her daughter, Erin Roy and partner Art Bickford of Hanover, NH; grandchildren Benjamin Paradis of Bangor; Kaleigh Roy of Castleton, VT and Alexander Wark of Hanover, NH; her sister, Patricia (Provost) Cole of Old Town; brother Edward Provost Jr. and sister-in-law Irma of Albion; many nieces and nephews. We would like to express thanks to Dr. Christopher Ritter and staff at Helen Hunt Health Center, Old Town, and the staffs of the EMMC Emergency Department and Cardiac Care Unit for their care of our mother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 20th at Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Parish 429 Main St., Old Town with The Very Rev. Wilfred Labbe, Presiding. The family invites relatives and friends for a time of refreshment and remembrance following the service, at the Parish hall. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Old Town. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com
