Elmer Smith

August 1, 1925 — February 17, 2025

Elmer "Mac" L. Smith, 99, passed away peacefully at his home on February 17, 2025, with his loving wife of 73 years by his side. He was born August 1, 1925, the son of Everett and Hildred Smith.

Mac left Brewer High School to serve his country as a Sonarman in the US Navy through WWII. He later owned and operated Hobb's Garage until his retirement, he was a founding member of Orrington Recreational Association, as well as a volunteer for the Orrington Fire Department. He was an active member of the VFW and EOCC.

Mac didn't waste a moment of his 99 years. When he wasn't in his garden, he could be found traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, making pickles, attending his beloved coffee visits, or spending time at camp. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was smart, kind, honest, and fair; an all-around good man who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mac was predeceased by his son, Stephen Smith; brothers, Everett, Gerald, and Keneth Smith; many brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as special friends, Merton, Roland and Everett. He is survived by his true love, Geneva (Bennett) Smith; sons, Gregory (Cindy) Smith, and Ed (Pam) Smith; daughter, Peggy Smith; grandchildren, Justin (Nancy) Smith, Becca (Mike) Labrie, Corey (Sammie) Smith, and Andrew (Shellie) Smith; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews, all who loved him deeply; special niece and 'second daughter', Joanne Dolan, who lovingly cared for them when they needed it the most.

A Celebration of Life will be announced in the Spring.
