Elsie Betters

Glenburn - Elsie L. (Vague) Betters, 89, died with her family by her side on October 9, 2019. She was born on June 17, 1930, in Brewer, the daughter of Harris and Grace (Tibbets) Vague.

Elsie was a graduate of Bangor High School Class of 1949. She worked for Canteen Service and Weight Watchers of Maine. In 1974, Elsie graduated from the Continental School of Hair Design and opened her own beauty Salon in 1975. She continued to operate her Salon until retiring in 2006.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Robert Better who died in 2008; her sisters, Marilyn De Buray and Glennice Welch; brother-in-law, Merwin Welch.

She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Quimby and her husband, Lynwood; two granddaughters, Shawna Bickford and her husband, John, and Shelly Mitton and her husband, Joseph II; great granddaughter, Bridget Devine; great-great grandson, Noah Pomeroy; several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where a funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019 with Rev. Ron Morris, officiating. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow the Reception at the Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
