Hermon and Bangor – Elwood L. “Woody” Beckwith Jr., 94, went home to be with his Savior and wife, Celia “Cele”, on September 6, 2020, at Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. Woody was born in Salem, NH on April 25, 1926 to Elwood L. Sr. and Pearl (Drake) Beckwith.
Woody was a member of the South Levant Baptist Church, and enjoyed playing dart ball with the men of the church.
Woody served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On his return Woody settled in Wallingford, CT, where he met the love of his life, Celia “Cele”. In 1986, Woody and Celia retired back to Hermon, ME on Celia’s family land. They were married for 65 wonderful years, until her passing in January 2017.
Woody will be greatly missed by his little 4-legged companion, Buffy. Woody is survived by his son, Edward Darcy; daughter, Doreen and her children, Eli and Melissa of Arizona; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and his wife, Celia, Woody was predeceased by a sister, Barbara and a brother, Albert.
A special thank you to the staff at Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor, for the great care in the last six months of Woody’s life.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, with Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating.
