Elwood Irving Tozier, 66, passed away on February 7, 2014. Elwood was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold and Deanie (Kneeland) Tozier and the son in law of Doris (Harriman) Mitchell, all of Baileyville.
Elwood was a graduate of Woodland High School. He started his career at Bath Iron Works until he was drafted into the Army, where he was injured and honorably discharged. Elwood came home and worked for the Georgia-Pacific Paper Co. as the Lead Storeroom Supervisor for 33 years until he was medically retired.
Elwood is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Mitchell) Tozier, with whom he spent 45 wonderful years; his daughter, Jennifer (Tozier) Pratt, her husband, Scott, and their son, Mitchell, whom he affectionately called “Papa’s Navy Seal”; two sisters, Marilyn (Tozier) Coffin and Nancy (Tozier) Gonzales; sisters and brothers-in-law Carolyn (Mitchell) James, and her husband, Jimmy James, Melva (Mitchell) Currier and her life partner, Kenny Appleton, and Barbara (Mitchell) Pendleton; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Coffin) Heleen and her husband, Rich, Lisa (Gonzales) Fuller, Gregory James and his wife, Heather, Wayne Mitchell, Stephanie Buzzell and her husband, Andrew, and Stacy Leighton. Elwood was also survived by special great nephews and nieces, Gary John Clinch, Mariah Eaton, Taylor Carle and her husband, Matthew and their son, Matthew, Courtney James, Morgan James, Michael Buzzell and his twins, Kobe and Callie, Felicia Mitchell and her son, Trystan, Mykel Leighton and S.J. Leighton; Elwood’s special friends who sustained him with happy memories of healthy days, Janice and Rolfe Flood of Calais, Donna and Wade Grove and their family of Woodsville, OH, Marvin and Artie Cox of Cheyenne, WY, and Aaron Cox and his family of Littleton, NH.
Elwood was predeceased by brothers-in-law William Coffin and Ron Gonzales; nieces, Kyra Justason, Karen James and Hunter and Gage Buzzell, as well as his friend, Norman Clark, the husband of Carol Clark and family.
Anyone who knew Elwood or spent any amount of time with him knew what a kind, genuine, loving family man he was.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Baileyville. Those who wish to remember Elwood in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Frank N. Beckett Center, 19 Eaton Street, P.O. Box 384, Calais, ME 04619.
