Emily Sirois

Emily (Skinner) Sirois – A mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 18, 2013 just a month and four days after happily celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born on October 14, 1 91 3 and grew up in Licford, NB, Canada with her parents, Charles and Edna (Gallup) Skinner and four rambunctious and handsome brothers, Harold, Ron, Gene and Jack whom have all predeceased her, and her mischievous younger sister, Kay. She worked for many years at Sears and Roebuck in Fort Fairfield and later in Presque Isle, retiring when she was 67. Emily had broken the gender barrier for management and was one of the first, if not the first, female catalog store manager for Sears and Roebuck. She returned to work a year after her first retirement at the Fort One Stop and then at Irving Mai n Way, working there until she turned 90. Emily had too many accomplishments in her long life to name, but she was proudest of her family. We will miss her. She spent her last days at the Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bangor where the Staff there attended to her needs and her family's needs kindly and lovingly. Emily had spent her last three years at Leisure Village Retirement Center in Presque Isle and was well cared for while there by both Leisure Village staff and staff from Senior Domestics, especially Peggy, Michelle, and others. She was proud to say she had lived nearly her entire life in Fort Fairfield after marrying her husband Wilfred Laurier Sirois who preceded her in death in 1966. She is survived by her children, Roberta Uphoff of Los Angeles, Patricia Reese of Houston, Lucille and Jim Beams of Indianapolis, Joan and David Wright of Bangor and Wilfred (Gee) and Judy Sirois of Wells, Maine and Florida. Additionally, she leaves a sister Kay and her husband Morris in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, a sister-in-law, Jean Skinner Dixon of Fort Fai rfield and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored. Her life was well lived and she was well loved. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. Emily was an avid reader and those wishing to remember her in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Fort Fairfield Public Library or a charity of one's choice.
