Erlene E. MacDonald, 94, died peacefully at home on April 8, 2024. She was born August 14, 1929, in Barre, VT, the daughter of Earlwood and Lona (Sanders) Murphy.
Erlene graduated from Williamstown High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked in the Williamstown Post Office and the Barre Capacitor Plant. She married Keith MacDonald on November 9, 1951, and lived in Williamstown until 2013. She spent her last years with her daughter and son-in-law in Bradford, Maine.
She was devoted to family life and homemaking, whether in the kitchen, camper or garden. She always helped those who were ill, bringing meals or staying with them until they recovered. She knit countless sweaters for needy children; she served Williamstown Federated Church in many ways for many years. She enjoyed socializing and loved to play games of all kinds, and she played to win.
An important part of her life was the home daycare business that she operated for 33 years. Many of those families helped her celebrate her 90th birthday.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheila Norman and husband, Robert, of Bradford, Maine; Brenda MacDonald-Kuper and husband, Brian, of Coventry, Vermont, and Cristy MacDonald of Waterbury, Vermont; grandchildren Nikki Easterby and husband, Mike, of Readfield, Maine; Kyle Norman and wife, Ashley, of Bradford, Maine; great-grandchildren Isaac and Abby Easterby of Readfield, Maine; sister-in-law Jeannine Murphy of Williamstown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Keith MacDonald, brothers Gerald and Gordon Murphy, and five nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome at a graveside service on May 29th at 11 AM at the Maple Hill Cemetery on Carrier Road in Washington, VT.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Ainsworth Public Library, PO Box 236, Williamstown, VT, 05679, or the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME, 04401, ATTN: Alicia.
