Ernest Caliendo

February 24, 1932 — February 18, 2015

BANGOR – Ernest A. Caliendo Jr. died February 18th, 2015 at a local nursing facility. Born February 24, 1932 in Rumford, Maine, the son of Ernest A. Caliendo Sr. and Eleanore Hill Caliendo. He was raised by his paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James V. Caliendo of Mexico, ME. Ernie was educated at Phillips Andover Academy, graduated from Hebron Academy then graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. In 1953, he married Barbara Damour with whom he was married for 62 years. He also served with the United States Army Signal Corp at Fort Benjamin in Indiana. Starting his career in the pulp & paper industry, he later started his own business in log home manufacturing, then expanding into other businesses including aviation, sporting camps, sawmill and construction. Ernie was a member in good standing of A.F. & A.M. Blazing Star Lodge of Rumford and Anah Shriner’s of Bangor. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was well known for his gardening and sharing of his crops. A licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying his own airplanes. Community minded, he participated in and sponsored many scholarships and fundraising events. He particularly enjoyed playing golf with good friends of many years. Foremost, he enjoyed time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Barbara, of Bangor, two sons, David and his wife Kathy of Hampden, and Peter of Billings, Montana, three grandchildren, Jennifer, Anthony and Lisa and her husband Jordan White.
