BANGOR - Ethel "Scotty" Pelkey, died December 24, 2018, at her home. She was raised in Winn, Maine. Scotty graduated from the Main School of Commerce, now Husson University, and then worked at Merchants National Bank. She met her husband Evan "Van" Pelkey when she was a bridesmaid and he was a groomsman at a mutual friends' wedding and they were married a year and a half later. The couple had three children and were married for 52 years. Van passed away on June 19, 2003.
Never one to be idle, Scotty continued to work at Merchants National Bank after having two of her children and she was a lifelong volunteer. She donated her time and energy over the years to the J.C. Wives, Junior League and PEO Chapter B. Scotty was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church and had been a member of the St. John's Congregation since moving to Bangor.
While service was always its own reward for Scotty, she also found tremendous friendship and comfort in the fellowship of people she knew. Anyone who knew Scotty knew what it was like to be graced by her smile, to hear her mischievous giggle or to marvel at the sparkle in her eyes. Her sense of adventure and youthfulness allowed her to travel to the Canadian Rockies, Gettysburg, Ottawa and Toronto, Canada and to enjoy an Alaskan Cruise. Scotty was a very generous and kind person with a warm heart and always willing to give of herself. Being her friend meant that you always knew you could count on her for loyalty, honesty, support and unwavering love. She will be remembered always and missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Gregory S. Pelkey of Roswell, GA, Virginia "Ginny" L. Somers of Ellsworth, and Mark E. Pelkey of Clarkston, MI; four grandchildren, Justin Voye, Aaron Voye, Miranda Pelkey, and Andrew Pelkey; two great-grandchildren, Ayda and Kyael Voye.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Steve Somers.
