BREWER - Eugene "Gene" Boynton, 88, husband of 63 years to Catherine "Kay" (Mann) Boynton, died peacefully, October 26, 2013 at his home. He was born March 1, 1925 in Eddington, son of Gilbert E. and Edna M. (Wood) Boynton.
Gene graduated from Brewer High School class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Gene owned and operated Johnson Monumental Company, from 1960 until his passing. He truly enjoyed serving his many customers over the years, who often acknowledged his exceptional work. Gene was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister and taught CCD for 8 years. He was a former member and charter member of the Pine Cone Council Knights of Columbus. Gene was a member of the YMCA Cardiac Rehab. Program and a volunteer for Heart to Heart. He was an avid bowler for many years. Gene's kind, generous, loving spirit touched many lives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kay, the love of his life, are one daughter, Teresa Barrows and her husband, Jack of Hampden; three grandchildren, Daniel Coffin and his wife, Shauna of Lincoln, Kaitlin Coffin of Revere, MA and Nicholas Coffin and his wife, Emily of Brewer ; one great grandson, Max Coffin of Brewer; loving feline companion, Nevaeh; a brother-in-law, Wayne Starrett of Warren; a sister-in-law, Gloria Perkins and her husband, Richard of Dedham; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, James H. Boynton and a sister, June Starrett.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 3-6 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, North Main St., Brewer. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, after the service.
