BANGOR - Eugene Ernest Brown, 61, died Monday, August 14, 2023, at his home after a prolonged illness. He was born March 12, 1962, in Fort Kent, Maine, the fifth child of Earl and Yvette (Gagne) Brown.
Eugene attended Fort Kent Community High School and graduated from Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburg, New York. He continued his studies at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, New Hampshire before transferring to Eastern Maine Community College where he graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts.
He worked as a prep chef at the University of Maine before ill health forced him to resign. He continued to volunteer at the Mana Soup Kitchen whenever his health allowed him to do so. He managed to entertain friends and relatives with his culinary skills and published a cookbook of culinary treasures that he, tongue in cheek, entitled “To Hell With Health”. He poked fun at what he called the “blasphemy of healthy changes to classic recipes” by publishing these classics with the original ingredients that can be “enjoyed on special occasions”.
Eugene is survived by his son, Christopher; his two grandchildren, Aiden and Aria Brown; his brothers, Earl and his wife, Kathy; and Alan; his sister, Julie and her husband, Bruce; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Lisa.
At Eugene’s request, services will be private. He will be laid to rest in St. Louis Cemetery, Fort Kent, at a later date. Friends and relatives are invited to donate in his memory to the charity of their choice.
