Eugene "Gene" Demmons, 80, went peacefully, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, February 20, 2025, while at home with Joan, his loving wife of 63 years by his side. He was born May 27, 1944, in Bangor, the son of Merle G. and Addeline A. (Greene) Demmons.
Eugene worked many years in construction, including the building project of Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME. He worked at Dexter Shoe factory, Etna-Dixmont School (Maintenance/Bus Driver), Hebron Ministerial Institute, Waverly, NY (Maintenance), Concord Police Department, Concord, NH (Maintenance). He was also part the church leadership at Liberty Assembly of God in Concord, NH and Charleston Church Downeast in Sullivan, ME. Without question, one of his most cherished positions he held, was that of a Missionary to Botswana, Africa, where he ministered for two years with his wife, Joan, and youngest daughter, Sarah. He loved to share memories of ministering the Gospel to the people of Botswana, as well as the many adventures of visiting the Kalahari Desert and trips to South Africa. Sharing the Gospel and telling people about the Salvation of Jesus Christ was his passion, even in his final days on earth.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joan (Currie) Demmons, are his children Laurie (John) Dinnell, Rick (Amy) Demmons, Mark (Diane) Demmons, Elizabeth Demmons, Sarah Demmons, Churojuok (Lizzie) Akol, Okong Omot, Thomas Bowles and Adrienne (Bruce) Campbell. He is survived by one sister, Donna (David) Ackley. Eugene has many grandchildren that he loved dearly, Nathan (Michelle) Alway, Matthew (Morghan) Alway, Brittany (Shane) Pelletier, Jessica (Daniel) Penn, Courtney (Scott) Bouchard, Rosanna Beal, Erin Kunkel, Gunnar Wilkerson, Connor Landry, Bella Demmons, Zakiya Amot, Ochan Amot, Achara Akol, Malachi Selph. He also has many great grandchildren, Lily and Landon Alway, Sebastian, Olivia and Scarlett Alway, Norah, Eli and Archie Pelletier, Matthew and Caleb Penn, Olivia Bouchard, Alaina Smith, Kennedy and Theodore Alway, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by Merle Demmons, Jr. (Brother), Walter Demmons, Sr. (Brother), Kenneth Demmons, Sr. (Brother), Michael Demmons, Sr. (Brother), Ngel Ojulu Omot (Son).
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 2-4pm Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave. Hampden, where a brief eulogy will be given at 2pm. Interment will be held in Dixmont Cemetery, Dixmont, in the spring.
