BANGOR – Eugene W. “Gene” Brennan, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 17, 2019. Gene was born on December 15, 1927 in Jamaica Plain, MA to William M. and Alida (Proulx) Brennan.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a recipient of the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return to civilian life he started a career at Charlestown Naval Shipyard as a power plant stationary engineer. On September 11, 1949 he married his beloved wife, Connie and together they raised four children. Gene was an avid reader, cribbage player, WWII history buff, and animal lover. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Winterport and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Alida K. Brennan of Stoneham, MA, Justine Kelley MacDonald and husband, Andrew of Bangor, and Caragene K. Brennan of Bangor; daughter-in-law, Belen T. Brennan of San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Leilani D. Mason, and husband, Sean of San Francisco, CA, Eugene P. Brennan, Jr. and wife, Sylvia of Palo Alto, CA, Brennan A. MacDonald of Ft. Sill, OK, and Patrick M. MacDonald of Bangor; great-grandchildren, Sophia O’Malley, Finn and Fiona Brennan. In addition to his wife, Gene was predeceased by his son, Eugene P. “Skip” Brennan, Sr.; and his brothers, Thomas, Roger, and James. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cheryl Brown, Devon, and Sandi, who with their help enabled Gene to remain in his home until the end, as was his wish.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 8, 2019 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
