Eugene Merton Welch - Veazie

Eugene M. Welch, 86, died peacefully, May 6, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 28, 1936, in Bradford, the son of Roland and Thelma (Hanson) Welch.

Eugene graduated Bradford High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958. After completing his service, he married the beautiful girl that had lived at the opposite end of Middle Road while they were growing up, Lorraine Ross, and they eventually settled in Veazie. They celebrated 62 years of marriage last July. Eugene was a proud member, and twice Past Master, of Mechanics’ Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Lorraine (Ross) Welch, are his sons, Jeffrey Welch and wife, Beth, of Levant, and Scott Welch and wife, Patty, of Veazie; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Loretta Ryan and partner, Bill Dean, of Glenburn; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond and Gerald; and sister, Leona.

A special Thank You goes out to Dad’s caregiver, Kim Wickett, for the exceptional care, kindness, and dedication she demonstrated that made it possible for Dad to stay at home through the later stages of his illness. Also to cousin Paul Wickett for assisting Kim, and for the many hours he spent conversing and keeping company with his uncle and fellow Mason.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Masonic graveside service at Williams Cemetery, Bradford, at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Scott and Patty’s residence at 11 Sunset Drive, Veazie, following the interment.
