Evan Mccoy

HERMON - Evan J. McCoy, 18, died unexpectedly on January 29, 2019. He was born March 2, 2000, in Bangor, the son of James and Annette (Fahey) McCoy.

Evan was the salutatorian of the Hermon High School, Class of 2018, where he participated in Band playing trumpet and flute and was self-taught in several other instruments. He was very passionate about his music. In his Junior year, he performed the lead role in the high school's production of 'Bye Bye Birdie'. He was very proud of these accomplishments. He used the college credits that he earned during high school to enter as a second-year student at the University of Maine with duel majors in Computer and Electrical Engineering. "His interests and abilities, including technical expertise that was at the graduate student level, led him to be involved in multiple UMaine research initiatives."

Evan excelled at everything he pursued, particularly computer programming. He began learning about software development at the age of 10 by developing game plugins and small hobby projects. Since then he has worked as a lead programmer/mentor on the Brewer High School FIRST Robotics Team (Orange Chaos) and held multiple software development positions at UMaine.

At a younger age, Evan excelled in Taekwondo at the ATA in Bangor where he obtained the rank of 2nd degree Black belt. He also was a member of Troop 25 Hermon Boy Scouts for several years.

"Evan was an exceptional young man who positively impacted the lives of all who knew him."

He is survived by his parents, James and Annette (Fahey) McCoy of Hermon; grandparents, James L. McCoy and his wife Mary, Elouise Look and her special friend Bill Stevens, James D. Fahey Sr., and Donna Soper; uncles and aunts, Thomas McCoy and his wife Marci, Kimm Reynolds and her husband Jeff, Julie Hatch and her husband Rick, James Fahey Jr., and his wife Coleen, Gail Ledford and her fiancé Craig White, Jen Jamison, Brian Look and his partner Tracey, Cary Look; a very special friend, Zoe Vittum; many cousins, friends, and his loving dog and constant companion, Tucker.

Evan was predeceased by two grandfathers, Douglas Look and Gary Soper and an uncle Gregg Ledford.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor where an informal sharing of memories to celebrate Evan's life will begin at 6:00 p.m.
