Evelyn Dempsey

February 4, 1948 — April 19, 2022

Evelyn L. Dempsey, PA-C, 74, a dedicated mother, nanny, and Physician Assistant of PCHC passed on April 19, 2022, born in Bangor, Maine predeceased by her father, Lorenzo Berry, and Gladys (Van Tassel) Williams.

Evelyn’s first love was her family including her children; Lisa Hussey and her husband of 27 years, Michael Hussey, Phillip Pierce and his husband of 34 years, Rodney Dennis, Donna Pierce, Donald Pierce, Daughter-in-law Jamie Pierce, and her grandchildren who she cherished and adored; Lauren Cunniff, Madison Hussey, Jordon Campbell, Kaylee Pierce, and longtime dear friend; Judy Gariepy and her beloved babies; Daisey May, Mookie, and her late Milon.

She dedicated her life to not only her family but to serve others as a prominent Physician Assistant in the local community. Evelyn’s humbling beginnings raising four children on her own with no education did not stop her from pursuing a career that filled her heart with purpose and joy speaking to her natural gift of caring for others. She began her healthcare journey by first becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant(CNA) and quickly following this with becoming a Medical Technician to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) before enrolling and graduating top of her class from Husson College as a Registered Nurse(RN). Although this was an incredible journey, Evelyn had not yet achieved her dream and she never let any obstacle stand in her way of achieving the dream of becoming a Physician Assistant. At age fifty, Evelyn sold everything she owned including her home and boarding business to pursue this dream, and in nineteen ninety-nine graduated from the University of New England as a Physician Assistant(PA) with a grade point average of 4.0. She began her PA career serving the local community at Winterport Family Medicine with Lawrence Smith, MD, and Mary Eyerer, MD, and was proud to serve her patients during the last eleven years at Penobscot Community Health Care in Brewer beside the most incredible team of healthcare professionals.

If you knew Evelyn, you knew another of her passions in life was the fine art of finding a deal and most especially at her favorite place, Marden’s. Her shopping as a means to not only get a great deal and to fill her home with the most beautiful Victorian furniture but to give to others and to support those in need gave her great joy. She went above and beyond in a manner like no other and if you had the pleasure of having her in your life you were profoundly blessed. She was one of a kind, deeply loved, and will forever be missed.
