Florence Hopkins

Bangor and Cumberland - Florence "Babe" E. Hopkins, 96, passed away after a brief illness at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth, Maine on May 24, 2024.

She was born in Bangor, Maine on March 15, 1928, daughter of Fenton A. and Louise P. (Doughty) Philbrick.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, Reginald Hopkins; two brothers, Fenton Philbrick, Jr., Wendall Philbrick, and her sister, Bette Grant.

Babe was a past regent and a very active, long-time member of the Daughters of Isabella. She also worked tirelessly for St. Joseph's Hospital auxiliary. Being an active and sociable person, Babe enjoyed her days at the Hammond Street Senior Center where she connected with many good friends. She stayed up to date with the social concerns as a member of the Current Event Club.

Babe had many talents. She was an avid baker, crocheter and loved to sing and play her organ. Her greatest joy was to have family and friends visit her home where she prepared a great meal.

Surviving are one son, Edward Hopkins and his partner, Dee Grindell of Glenburn; two daughters, Pamela Vogel and her husband, Richard, of Cumberland Foreside, and Sister Karen Hopkins, RSM of Springvale, Maine; three grandsons, Richard Vogel II and wife, Michelle of North Yarmouth, Brent Hopkins and wife, Jeannie of New York, and Derek Vogel and wife, Renni of Texas; three granddaughters, Wendy Ashworth and her husband, Chris of Virginia, Kristin Beaulieu and her husband, Jim of Cumberland, and Marcy Vidal and her husband, Wayne of Bangor; fourteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Charloux of Florida, and Norma Spencer of Bangor; one brother, Wayne Philbrick of Hampden.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments following the Mass in the Parish Hall of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
